Malta Stock Exchange Institute

Malta Stock Exchange Institute started operations in 2018 with a view to offer affordable relevant short courses addressing a range of subjects that are generally financial services sector oriented. These courses are presented in an online and classroom environment in English by qualified and experienced professionals. The objective is to help increase the standard of financial literacy and to offer financial services practitioners the opportunity to remain up to date on topical subjects and regulations.

The MSE Institute is licenced as a Further Education Institute by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA). The Chairman of the Institute is Mr Joseph Portelli and the Director of Studies is Mr Cliff Pace. Contact details are as follows:

The Malta Stock Exchange has, through the Institute, put into action its Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy to support the local community by enhancing financial education. In this respect, every year, over 90 courses are held at the Malta Stock Exchange Institute with a total attendance of over 1,300 persons.  There are over 50 individual courses held and these fall under the following categories:

  • Introduction to financial and capital markets, financial literacy

  • Capital markets

  • Cyber security

  • Finance and financial reporting

  • Funds administration and management

  • Human Resources

  • Legal affairs

  • Regulations and compliance

  • Portfolio risk

  • Corporate risk

The number of courses and attendees registered have improved year on year, through the introduction of new courses and the increased presence of the MSEI brand in the market. The Institute will continue to position its courses aimed at participants with various levels of financial knowledge, from the small investor to students and practitioners, or simply those who want to know more about financial matters.  In this regard, courses are categorised to be of an introductory, intermediate or advanced level.

The events section on the Malta Stock Exchange website is kept updated with the full list of courses planned. (Click here to see all planned courses for the rest of the year).

Interested parties may also register through the same website to receive email notifications of courses and events throughout the year (Click here to subscribe to email notifications).

The Institute produces a prospectus that highlights the courses that will be held during the year.  (Click here to see the 2024 prospectus)

The MSE Institute assesses its performance through anonymous feedback collected after each course. We are proud to have consistently received excellent reviews on the quality and organisation of the courses, the lecturers and the overall standard of delivery.  It is satisfying to note that virtually all attendees would recommend the attendance of MSE Institute courses to their friends.  These are very encouraging results that set a standard that we intend to retain and improve upon where possible.  Most people indicate that they prefer an online environment.  To address this preference, we have invested in technology to allow us, from 2022, to offer all courses concurrently online as well as from the classroom located at the Exchange.

Annual Investor Conference

The MSE Institute supports the improvement in financial literacy and awareness of current issues through the organisation of the Annual Investor Conference.  This is aimed at retail investors and offers attendees the opportunity to learn the principles and practical concepts of investing as well as topical developments in the capital markets from qualified and experienced professionals.
